You would have thought that the Vietnam War would have taught us once and for all that wars should never be fought for political expediency’s sake. No war can be won if it is fought to win elections rather than battles and so that politicians can save face at the expense of soldiers’ lives. As General Douglas MacArthur once warned, “It is fatal to enter a war without the will to win it.” Yet, it appears that we’ve not only learned nothing from Vietnam, but also turned a deaf ear to MacArthur’s warning.

President Trump halted our war on the theocratic terrorist regime in Teheran for pure political expediency’s sake. With the mad mullahs of Iran beaten black and blue against the ropes by our military operation Epic Fury, Trump backed off from kayoing them once and for all, because Democrats, who’ve long since abandoned the political maxim, “all politics stop at the water’s edge,” turned higher gas prices, from the Iranians’ shutting down of the Strait of Hormuz, into their number one midterm election strategy. Exploiting Trump’s attempt to stop the mad dash of Iran’s mad mullahs from acquiring nuclear weapons and sending up mushroom clouds over Tel Aviv and Peoria, Democrats were able to start persuading more and more Americans that lower prices at the gas pumps are far more important than preventing our world’s number one state sponsor of terrorism from arming itself to the teeth with A-bombs.

As a result of the above, Trump let the mad mullahs of Iran off the ropes and allowed them to get him in a grappling clinch, which they now hope to maintain until the bell rings on our midterm elections and Donald Trump is TKO’d by Democrats. After all, the terrorist regime in Tehran not only knows, from decades of experience, that it can always play Democrats like a fiddle, but also that Democrats, if returned to power in D.C., will spend all of their time trying to impeach Trump, not imperiling their regime or in any way impeding their terrorist activities or acquisition of a nuclear arsenal.

As if pausing Epic Fury for political expediency’s sake was not bad enough, Trump is now inserting the big schnozzola of political expediency into Ukraine’s war with Russia as well. So far, Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine has resulted in the deaths of over 150,000 Ukrainian soldiers and over 16,000 Ukrainian civilians. All told, total causalities, soldiers and civilians, both wounded and killed in Ukraine, are estimated to be over 620,000. To fuel his death-dealing war machine and to continue the carnage in Ukraine, Vladimir Putin is highly dependent upon Russia’s oil and gas industry, which makes up a third of the Russian economy. For this reason, as well as to counter Russia’s targeting of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Ukraine have consistently targeted Russia’s energy infrastructure. As any military strategist who is worth their salt will tell you, targeting an enemy’s source of fuel and military funding is crucial to winning any war. However, Trump is now calling upon Zelenskyy to cut it out, since it is effecting gas prices in the U.S. and hurting Republicans’ chances to win the midterm elections.

At the same time he is trying to put the kibosh on Zelenskyy’s strikes on Russia’s gas and oil industry, Trump has made a deal with Vladimir Putin to buy hundreds of thousands of tons of Russian diesel fuel with hundreds of millions of our taxpayer dollars, which, of course, will end up going into Vladimir’s war chest. This deal with the Russian dictator is not only a desperate attempt by Trump to get down diesel fuel prices in our country before the midterm elections, but is also being roundly condemned as illegal by both Republicans and Democrats in Congress. After all, it is in direct contradiction of the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act, which was not only just signed into law by Trump himself, but designed to prevent countries from purchasing Russian energy products by threatening them with heavy tariffs and sever sanctions.

Sunday, Trump announced an energy ceasefire agreement, which he supposedly had negotiated, between Putin (Russia) and Zelenskyy (Ukraine). As the whole world knows, Vladimir Putin, like the mad mullahs of Iran, has never met an agreement or treaty that he likes. In fact, like the theocratic terrorist regime of Tehran, Putin has broken every agreement and treaty he has ever signed, and most of them before the ink could dry. True to form, Putin continued firing on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure after signing the so-called energy ceasefire agreement, proving that it was not worth the paper it was written on. Consequently, Zelenskyy blasted Putin and called upon Trump to either intervene on Ukraine’s behalf or forget about Ukraine sticking to an energy ceasefire agreement that Vladimir Putin is totally ignoring and flagrantly violating. In response, Trump came down hard on Zelenskyy, not Putin, blaming Zelenskyy for breaking the energy ceasefire deal and calling upon the Ukrainians, not the Russians, to elect for themselves a new leader.

Both sides of the political aisle need to put down their paint cans and brushes and stop trying to paint up our war with Iran or Ukraine’s war with Russia as Republican red or Democrat blue. In addition, Trump Derangement Syndrome sufferers, both those who think Trump can do nothing right and those who think he can do nothing wrong, need to clear their heads and stop looking at these two wars through the prism of their Trump prejudices. If Democrats and Republicans, as well as Never Trumpers and MAGA Americans, don’t do so, we won’t win our war with Iran, Ukraine won’t win its war with Russia, and regardless of who wins the midterms, our world will be a far more dangerous place, with the mad mullahs of Iran still in power in Tehran and a Russian dictator in Moscow emboldened to invade other European counties, having gotten away with his invasion of Ukraine.
