On this 19th anniversary of 9/11, I’m posting some personal musings on the myth of American invulnerability. Like all of history’s great powers, our country has cloaked itself in the false security of invulnerability. Yet, on 9/11/01, God showed us, in no uncertain terms, how easily we could be knocked of our high horse and brought to our knees. All it took was 19 young Muslims armed with nothing but box cutters.

Today, we once again find ourselves knocked off our high horse and brought to our knees. This time, however, it’s not by young Muslims armed with box cutters, but by a microscopic pathogen from Wuhan, China. Overnight, we saw our constitutional rights and freedoms suspended and our government usurp unconstitutional control over our lives and livelihoods. It was as though we went to sleep one night in America and woke up the next morning in some autocratic foreign country.

In spite of such divine validations of our country’s incredible vulnerability, to things like box cutter armed Muslims and a microscopic pathogen, we Americans are still strutting around with our fists in the face of the Almighty, as though His strong arm is too short to reach and ruin us. Unfortunately, and unbeknownst to most Americans, these little harbingers of judgment to come pale in comparison to the biblically predicted fiery indignation of God about to be poured out on this Christ-rejecting planet. As the ancient Prophet Amos preached to yesterday's Israelites, snug in their false security, I proclaim to today's Americans, snug in their false security, “Prepare to meet your God!” (Amos 4:12)
