Yesterday our Time Capsule dealt with the “black idol,” how many African Americans have made their color their god. To those who deify their race, skin pigmentation is made into the overriding and determining factor in everything. If decisions or verdicts favor someone of their race, then, right and justice have been served. However, every time a decision or verdict is unfavorable toward someone of their race, regardless of the facts or evidence, then, the cry of racism is immediately heard. The decision or verdict is dismissed as wrong and unjust and ascribed to racist motives, not to mention the fact that those behind the decision or verdict are condemned indiscriminately for bigotry.

What does it say about the state of racial relations in America when protests breakout over a white police officer’s shooting of a black youth in self-defense? Antonio Martin, an 18-year-old black man with a long rap sheet that included assaults and armed robbery, was shot to death in Berkeley, Missouri Tuesday night when he pointed a gun at a police officer. Immediately afterward, protests began in this St. Louis suburb, escalating to the point that Interstate 175 was shutdown by protesters for about 45 minutes on Wednesday evening.

What does it say to you when the former star of the emergent church movement, Rob Bell, joins with spiritual ding-a-ling Oprah Winfrey to propagate spiritual nonsense to the gullible masses? Bell, who has espoused universalism and embraced same-sex marriage, is beginning his own show, “The Rob Bell Show,” on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) this month. Oprah, or as I like to call her, “Poperah,” has been preaching for years a generic spirituality that suggest all religions are equally valid paths to God. I've been told that my spiritual gift is rubbing people the wrong way. A friend told me Wednesday that he was trying to stay out of trouble. I shared with him that I'd given up on that notion, since trouble seems to follow me everywhere I go and jump all over me at every turn. I really don't intend to make folks so mad, but speaking the truth in these truth-hating times has that inevitable effect upon people. Well, hold on to your hats, or should I say your tempers, here I go again.
