To the open-eyed and open-minded American, of whom I fear there are few, our country is clearly seen as a powder keg about to explode. Civic discord has grown to dangerous proportions and our government has done nothing but douse these contentious fires with flammable fuel for decades. Far from easing social tensions, Washington D.C. has exacerbating them by proving itself to be the hotbed of our civic unrest. For years politicians have pitted one American against another in hopes of gaining votes at the polls. They’ve fan the flames of racial demagoguery and class warfare to the detriment of our country, for which they care not a whit, being solely concerned with the betterment of their political fortunes.

Henry Grattan Guinness, who was known as the Irish "Spurgeon," acutely asserted that history was the interpreter of prophecy. According to him, "the sufferings and glories of our Lord, foretold in the Old Testament, remained [incomprehensible] until their meaning was revealed by the [historical] events of [the New Testament]." Since "prophecy is history written in advance," Guinness argued that "history...takes the place of prophecy" as "the foretold [becomes] fulfilled."
Do you know the definition of the word enmity? The Bible begins with God's prediction of enmity between the seed of the serpent, the children of the devil, and the seed of the woman, the children of God (Genesis 3:15). Paul teaches that the carnal mind is at enmity with God and incapable of obedience to God (Romans 8:7). James adds that friendship with this world is enmity with God and that everyone who is a friend of the world is an enemy of God (James 4:4). The Bible even teaches us that the world is at such enmity with Christ that worldly foes will lay down their animosities toward one another in order to join forces against Christ (Luke 23:12).
