Ever since the days of ancient Babylon, which was the first great Gentile world power, every Gentile superpower has served as the Babylon of its day. For instance, Peter called Rome, the great Gentile world power of his day, "Babylon" in 1 Peter 5:13. As today's only remaining superpower, America serves as the "Babylon" of our present-day world.

Shortly before his death in 2008, Paul Weyrich, who not only cofounded the Moral Majority with Jerry Falwell, but also coined the name "Moral Majority," wrote a letter to Christian conservatives. It was one of the most honest evaluations of the sad and sorrow state of present-day America that I have ever read. In the letter, Weyrich admitted that there was no moral majority in America, a fact indubitably proven by the American people's election and reelection of Bill Clinton to the White House. I’ve never written anything with more trepidation over being misunderstood and maligned than this article. I know thousands are suffering in the city of Houston. I also know that those suffering in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey are from all walks of life. This unprecedented hurricane has proven indiscriminate in its victimization of every age, race, religion, class, and income. Truly, as Christians, our hearts should go out and our prayers should go up for the residents of Houston.
