Here's something that should shout and scream at us, but I fear will be given scant attention, if any at all. Robert Gates, the president of The Boy Scouts of America, has called for an end to the organization’s ban on gay scout leaders. According to Gates, continuing the ban will result in the end of The Boy Scouts of America. In other words, Gates claims that the only way for the Scouts to survive is to start donning rainbow colored sashes and earning "gay friendly" and "politically correct" Merit Badges. Otherwise, Gates says, "It will be the end of us [The Boy Scouts of America] as a national movement."

Robert Gates, the former US Secretary of Defense, obviously knows a lot about the social, political and judicial changes occurring in our country. In light of this, Gates has called for the Boy Scouts to go ahead and change their policy on gay scout leaders before they are forced to by our court system. It's just a matter of time, Gates maintains, until the government will force the Scouts to send boys out into the woods with gay scout leaders and to march in Gay Pride Parades. Therefore, Gates proposes that the Scouts go ahead and revoke their "unsustainable position" on gay scout leaders in order to survive the perfect storm gathering in today's politically correct America against everyone refusing to jump on the gay bandwagon.

Now, the reason this should grab our attention is not The Boy Scouts of America's caving in to the gay agenda. After all, they already did this back in 2013, when 60% of their members voted in favor of ending the organizations ban on gay scouts. Instead, the reason this should grab out attention is because our churches, unbeknownst to the vast majority of them, are facing the same decision the Boy Scouts are facing, either to survive by compromise or perish on principle! When it comes to the Boy Scouts, they believe the survival of their organization is more important than standing up for their principles. What about your church, will it decide, like the Boy Scouts, that its survival is more important than standing up for the truth?

In these politically correct times we need to remember these most pertinent words of our Lord, "For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it" (Mark 8:35). Will you and your church compromise the truth of the Gospel in order to survive in the days ahead? One thing for sure, you're about to find out. The verdict is in when it comes to The Boy Scouts of America, their instinct for survival trumps everything else, including right and wrong. What will you and your church do, lose your life by trying to save it or save it by losing it for the Gospel's sake? If you ask me, to survive at the expense of the Gospel is to live too long! Believe it or not, somethings are more important than your survival or your church's.
