In Jesus' day, the temple was not a building built by human hands (Acts 7:48), but the body of Christ (John 2:19-22), for God was alive in the world in the man Christ Jesus. Today, the temple of God is still the body of Christ. However, it is not His physical body, but His spiritual body—the church (Ephesians 2:19-22; 1 Corinthians 3:16-17; 6:19-20; 2 Corinthians 6:16). God is alive in the world today in the person of the Holy Spirit who indwells all believers in Christ. Neither Muslims nor Jews, who are once again fighting over the Temple Mount, are aware of the fact that it is spiritually desolate, a place abandoned by Christ long ago (Matthew 23:38-24:2). Furthermore, it will remain so until Christ returns. Contrary to popular belief, a rebuilt Jewish temple, which will supposedly be desecrated by "the antichrist," is not the missing piece of end-time Bible prophecy. How can a place already left spiritually desolate be desecrated if a temple is rebuilt there in absolute rejection of Jesus Christ?
