Is it just me or are other Americans catching on as well to the brainlessness of beltway politicians and pundits? Despite the prevalent belief that media personalities and Washington politicians are smarter than the rest of us, the pundits' prognostications continuously prove untrue and the Republican Party keeps running "winnable" losing candidates―Bob Dole, John McCain, and Mitt Romney.

As I've argued for years, the bottom line in politics, just like the bottom line in everything else, should be the truth. Truth is more important than anything, even winning elections. In fact; truth is the one thing worth losing over, whether we'll talking about an election or anything else. Truth is really all that matters. It is the one thing worth living and dying for.

Senator Ted Cruz's book A Time For Truth has a familiar ring to us at Time For Truth Ministries. We also could not help but applaud when he announced his candidacy for the presidency back in March with these words: "It is the time for truth, it is the time for liberty, it is the time to reclaim the constitution of the United States." Of course, beltway wisdom, such as that of Fred Barnes, argues that anyone, like Ted Cruz, who takes an uncompromising stand for the truth is unelectable in today's America. Unfortunately, Barnes may be right.

I can't help but laugh at people who wonder why present-day politicians lie to us. The reason, at least to me, is obvious. If they told us the truth hardly anyone would vote for them. Today's Americans, as the Bible teaches and predicts men will do (John 3:19; 2 Thessalonians 2:8-12), prefer lies to the truth. Will Ted Cruz distinguish himself from the wolf pack of present-day politicians in sheep's clothing by staying true to the truth, even if it cost him the presidency? Will the American people elect a truth-telling candidate to the White House? One thing for sure, if truth has fallen into such disfavor with the American people that anyone espousing it is unelectable to the highest office in our land, then, it no longer matters who we elect to the White House, since it will soon be torn down, having been condemned by God.
