I've been preaching for some time that the younger generation's "rethinking church" is sinking Christianity. I even preached a series of sermons on "Hipster Christianity" to prove my point, as well as to explain its diabolical roots and how it has permeated the contemporary church in America. Click here to view the video of the first sermon in the series.
Well, today I saw a video on YouTube that serves as proof positive of everything I've been preaching. It is a video of young “Christians” explaining how they are “Christians,” but really not Christians. Click here to view the video.
It is not just church today’s young people are rethinking, but Christianity as well. They are not just demanding that church be entertaining, but that the Christian Faith be elastic; that is, pliable to their personal whims and wishes. They don’t want a religious faith based on the objective truths of God’s infallible Word, but one based on their subjective and fallible opinions.
I'm always amazed at how all these "accepting" and "tolerant" young people, for whom all of us old folks are supposed to bend over backward, even if it requires compromising our faith and God's Word, are so intolerant of us and of our biblical beliefs. For instance, they describe us on this video as: (1) Homophobic (2) People who think we're perfect (3) Closed-minded (4) Unaccepting (5) Uneducated (6) Judgmental (7) Know-it-alls who think we have all the answers (8) Ignorant (9) People who place ourselves on a pedestal (10) Kinda of crazy (11) Ruiners not only of other people, but also of Christianity itself (12) Hypocrites, and (13) Really terrible people.
At the same time, they describe themselves as "Christians" who are: (1) Accepting (2) Queer (3) Gay (4) Feminists (5) Love wine (6) Like to talk about sex and give sex advice to others (7) Believe in science rather than Scripture, and (8) Love Christian rock and rap. Interestingly, not one of them mentions their love for Jesus Christ, but a couple of them mention their love for "TMac" and "Beyoncé." According to them, ever Christian is different and on his or her own path to wherever they're going. Therefore, each individual Christian should have a chance to explain their own personalized and particular version of the Christian faith.
What is conspicuously absent from this video is any confession of Jesus Christ by any of these so-called Christians. In fact, not a single one of them mentions the name of Jesus. Remember, John taught us that the acid test for determining Christians from antichrists was whether or not one confesses Jesus Christ (1 John 4:1-3). Those who do are of God and have the Spirit of God, but those who don't are of the devil and have been seized by the spirit of antichrist.
