Tweeting Through Micah

Introduction: Micah, one of the Old Testament's Minor Prophets, was probably a "country" prophet, like Amos, one of his contemporaries. His name means, "Who is like Jehovah?" Although he prophesied primarily to Judah, he also prophesied to Israel. His prophecy is concerned with the sins, destruction, and restoration of both the southern and northern kingdoms.

Micah 1:1  When there is no word nor vision from the Lord to His prophets, the lamp of God is in danger of being put out and the people of God are in danger of perishing. (1 Samuel 3:1-3; Proverbs 29:18)

When God’s prophets are visionless or God-given visions are veiled to God’s people, both darkness and destruction are inevitabilities.

Micah 1:5 — Since God laid the blame for the iniquity and idolatry of Israel and Judah on their capitals, Samaria and Jerusalem, does He not hold our capital, Washington D.C., largely accountable for our country’s current sinful rebellion and spiritual reprobation? (Micah 1:5)

“Men cannot be made good by the state, but they can easily be made bad.” (Lord Acton)

Micah 5:2 — In the incredible miracle of the Incarnation the infinite invaded the finite in the form of an infant.

Micah 7:19 — To cast our sins into the depths of the sea means for God to put them where no man can ever bring them up against us again.

God buries our sins in the depths of the sea and then puts up a sign that reads, “No Fishing.” (Corrie Ten Boom)
