TODAY'S DEVOTION ON THE BIBLE
Now that we’ve looked at divine revelation, let’s turn our attention to the Spirit’s illumination. Illumination is the process by which the Holy Spirit enlightens the human mind with spiritual understanding so that man can understand God’s written revelation of Himself—the Bible.
In 1 Corinthians 2:14, the Apostle Paul teaches us: “The natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” Unless the Spirit, the Author of Scripture, enlightens the human mind to the truths of Scripture, the Scripture not only remains incomprehensible to man, but nonsensical as well. There is simply no way the “natural” or unspiritual man, a man without the illumination of the Holy Spirit, can make sense of the Scripture, regardless of his great scholarship or high IQ.
