The Bible by the Numbers > Day 7

Our All and All (1 Corinthians 15:24-28)

When it comes to the totality symbolized in the Scripture by the number three, one must not overlook the spiritual significance of totality associated with Christ.

In Colossians 2:9, the Apostle Paul teaches us that all “the fulness of the Godhead” dwelt in the mortal body of Jesus Christ. Since the triune God invaded our world in the human form of Jesus Christ, Christ was both total God and total man. He was at the same time “the Son of God” and “the Son of man.” He was fully divine and fully human, not lacking in either His divinity or His humanity.

✜ Son of God — Matthew 8:29; 14:33; 27:54; Mark 1:1; Luke 1:35; John 1:34, 49; 3:18; 5:25; 11:27; 20:31; Acts 8:37; 9:20; Romans 1:4; 2 Corinthians 1:19; Galatians 2:20; Hebrews 4:14; 1 John 4:15; 5:5, 13.

✜ Son of Man — Matthew 8:20; 9:6; 10:26; 11:19; 12:40; 13:34; 16:13, 27-28; 18;11; 19:28; 20:28; 24:27, 30, 37, 39, 44; 25:31; 26:64; Mark 8:38; 9:9; 14:62; Luke 5:24; 9:56; 12:8; 17:24; 19:10; 21:27; 22:48; John 1:51; 3:13-14; 5:27; 6:27, 53, 62; 8:28; 12:23; 13:31; Acts 7:56.

It is also in Christ our Messiah, which means “the Anointed One,” that the three anointed offices of Prophet, Priest and King reach their totality.

Prophet — Up until Christ, we had but glimpses of God through His prophets, but in Christ, the promised Prophet who was to come, we received the full revelation of God (Hebrews 1:1-4).

Priest — Up until Christ, there were sinful priests who offered continuous animal sacrifices to make temporal atonement for sin, but in Christ we received a sinless High Priest who offered Himself once and for all to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself (Hebrews 7-10).

King — Up until Christ, there were temporal rulers who reigned over earthly kingdoms, but Christ came as the eternal “King of kings” to reign over the Kingdom of God, a Kingdom that has no end in neither its dimensions nor duration (Matthew 1:30-33; Revelation 11:15; 17:14; 19:16).
