The Bible by the Numbers > Day 18

Judgment on a Scale of Ten (Hebrews 10:26-31)

We’ll conclude our brief study of the number ten in Scripture with a couple of ominous observations.

God’s complete judgement on Egypt, the enslaver of His people, came in the form of ten plagues. Make no mistake about it; God’s judgment of those who reject His plan of salvation and persecute His saints is certain. It will also be complete. It is inevitable and inescapable, as the Lord warned through the ancient Prophet Amos, “I will slay the last of them with the sword: he that fleeth of them shall not flee away, and he that escapeth of them shall not be delivered” (Amos 9:1).

No one should expect leniency from the Almighty who has gone their way rather than God’s way, who has turned their nose up at God’s offer of grace and who has trampled the precious blood of Jesus under their feet. Their judgment at the heavenly bar will be swift and sure. Awaiting them is the sure and certain prospect “of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour [all] the adversaries [of God]” (Hebrews 10:27).

God’s looming judgment upon this Christ-rejecting world awaits the climax of our world’s sinful rebellion against God. This climax, according to the Bible, will come in the form of an end time world power led by a confederation of ten kingdoms (Daniel 7:24; Revelation 17:12).

When this biblically predicted end time world power appears, we will know that: (1) our world’s sinful rebellion against God has reached it summation (2) time shall soon be no more (3) God’s judgment is about to fall, and (4) our “redemption draweth nigh” (Luke 21:38).
