POLITICS > GOING DOWNHILL ON GAY STREET

24 Aug 2009

The main street through the downtown of my hometown, Knoxville, Tennessee, is called Gay Street. Yes, I said, “Gay Street.” Back when it was named, the word “gay” meant “happy” or “merry.” Of course, today it carries a totally different connotation. To be gay today is to be homosexual. This confiscating of a word for happy by homosexuals is no coincidence, it was done deliberately. It was intended to cast sexual perversion in a positive light and to portray all who practice it as perky people.

Many wonder why my hometown doesn’t change the name of its main drag. I, on the other hand, understand why it doesn’t. The politically incorrect repercussions of doing so would jeopardize not only the financial well-being of downtown businesses, but also of the city itself. Therefore, business owners and city officials prefer to leave things as they are rather than risk a boycott by radical gays and a whole slew of their supporters, not to mention all of the negative publicity Knoxville would receive at the hands of today’s gay-friendly media.

It looks like Knoxville will continue its semblance of a homosexual promoting municipality and any Knoxvillians who don’t like it will be condemned not only for bigotry against homosexuals, but also for disloyalty to their hometown, since anyone suggesting a name change for Gay Street will be taken to task for not having the best interest of their city and fellow-citizens at heart. Herein lies one of evil’s most diabolical characteristics; namely, surrounding itself with some decency that must be fought through in order to fight evil itself.

Why do homosexuals insist upon the legitimizing of their sexual deviancy as a matter of equal or civil rights? Is it not so that everyone who refuses to agree with them will be condemned as an intolerant bigot? Why do terrorists insist upon living among innocent civilians, in the midst of whom they stash their weapons and launch attacks? Is it not so that any attack on them will be condemned over collateral damage and civilian deaths. Why is abortion, the American Holocaust, shrouded in things like the reproductive health of women and a woman’s right to choose? Is it not so that all abortion opponents can be painted up as instigators of back-ally abortions and oppressors of women?

Whoever climbs into the ring with evil, needs to know that evil never fights fair nor flies its true colors. Like its progenitor, it appears as “an angel of light,” never as the prince of darkness. Evil does so in order to enlist the sympathizes of the gullible masses. The world won’t see evil’s foes as fighting great red dragons, but as warmongers and enemies of manifold decencies; such as, the good of your hometown and the civil rights of others. Thus, we shouldn’t be surprised when the crowd turns on us and starts cheering for evil to knock our block off. If we look down, we’ll discover that the world has dressed us in the black trunks and evil in the glistening white ones.

The Bible predicted the coming of a day like ours, a day when good is called evil and evil is called good. In today’s politically correct world, it’s those who promote sin that wear the white hats and all who oppose it that wear the black ones. Good people are the bad guys and bad people are the good guys; consequently, the winning of the world by evil now appears inevitable. It’s just a matter of time. It’s no longer a question of if, but of when.

All of this was brought home to me during this year’s Independence Day. Every year, on the 4th of July, we’re all expected to wrap ourselves in red, white and blue, while warbling a robust rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. This, despite the fact that today’s America no longer even resembles yesterday’s. The country that we’ve known and loved is no more; it has changed as much over the past few years as the definition of the word “gay.” Still, any Christian who admits being uncomfortable standing in line and saying the Pledge of Allegiance to a country purposely profaning itself, denouncing its Christian history and heritage, and championing the decadency it once abhorred in place of the decency it once admired will be roundly condemned as unpatriotic.

Now, I’m not talking about our responsibilities as citizens. The Bible is clear on this point. Christians are to be model citizens. Neither am I talking about being grateful for our freedoms as Americans. We should all be grateful for the liberties afforded us in this land; grateful to God, to whom our Founding Fathers attributed our liberties, as well as to all who serve our nation in defense of liberty. What I’m talking about is Christians becoming increasingly uncomfortable waving the flag of a country that is becoming increasingly unchristian, if not downright antagonistic to the Christian faith.

Our own president recently declared that we are no longer a Christian nation. He did not do so sorrowfully, but boastfully. He wasn’t ashamed of such a proclamation, but proud of it. Yet, any Christian taking offense at our president’s boast will certainly be accused of disrespecting the office of the presidency. Thus, we’re left with the choice of appearing un-American or agreeing with our president that we’re unchristian. I guess we’re about to find out where our true allegiance lies.

Will we be willing to appear unpatriotic or will we go along with our country’s denunciation of our faith and increasing hostility towards it? Will we be willing to appear disrespectful of the office of the presidency or will we remain silent while our president and populace grow more and more disrespectful of our Lord? While remaining model citizens and grateful for our freedoms, will we continue waving the flag of a country that no longer resembles what it once stood for and has actually become the antithesis of it? Although I can’t speak for you and your house, I can speak for me and mine, and as far as I'm concerned, we will serve the Lord.
