A popular song from the past spoke of a love-sick lass being “killed softly” with the words of her crooning love. Although liberals always play the same old socialist tune, they continuously change the lyrics in hopes of killing us softly with their words. Take for example their current championing of “identity politics.”
For years liberals have seized every opportunity afforded them to play the race and gender cards against their political opponents, hoping to put black hats on the opposition’s heads and ascribe dark motives to their opponents’ platforms. All of this previous dirty-dealing from the bottom of the deck has finally caught up to these political cardsharps. This year, their own Party finds itself embroiled in a primary that is pitting blacks against whites and women against men.
According to conventional liberal lingo, the epitome of intolerance and prejudice is white voters insisting upon voting for a white candidate and male voters insisting upon voting for a male candidate. However, when blacks insist upon voting for Obama and women insist upon voting for Hillary it is deemed by Democrats to be neither intolerant nor prejudice. It is simply “identity politics”; that is, a mere matter of voters identifying with a candidate of the same race or gender. Rather than being wrong and reprehensible, it is good and completely understandable.
Calling it “identity politics” when perpetrated by them and intolerance and prejudice when perpetrated by others, enables liberals to softly commend themselves for the very same thing over which they severely condemn others. Liberals are lionized and all their dissenters demonized for identical behavior.
Being unable to justify their positions or win converts to their beliefs, today’s sly liberal wordsmiths subtly revise the vernacular so as to redefine their untenable positions as unquestionable and their unbelievable beliefs as universal. Recasting righteousness into their own image by twisting the meaning of terms facilitates the liberal ruse that the only path to virtue is conformity to liberal ideas. For instance, consider the liberal spin and slant on the issue of same-sex marriage.
Liberals artfully argue that homosexuals should have the same right to marry as everyone else. Although this may sound both sensible and sensitive to a dumb downed, politically correct populace, it is actually nothing more than a smokescreen, since homosexuals already have the same right to marry as everyone else. If a gay man wants to marry a woman, he has every right to do so. Likewise, if a lesbian wants to marry a man, she has every right to do so.
The issue of same-sex marriage has nothing to do with the rights of homosexuals, but everything to do with redefining marriage. The problem with homosexuals is that they don’t want anything to do with marriage. Instead, they want to redefine marriage to fit their perversion, as well as condemn everyone who disagrees with them as a homophobe and a hatemonger. As a result, homosexuality is made virtuous and unassailable, and all who refuse to kowtow villainous and unpardonable.
Having captured the vernacular and recast righteousness as liberalism, liberals have redefined right as wrong and wrong as right. Their wrong headedness is now right heartedness and all who refuse to conform are condemned as narrow-minded and heartless. Ensnared in the liberal tangle of twisted terminology, most Americans have resigned themselves to hanging by their heels in an upside down world. Why, they can’t help but ask themselves, should I go to the trouble of freeing myself from liberals’ jumbled jargon and regaining my cerebral balance so as to once again view the world right-side-up rather than upside-down if I’ll only end up bluntly bludgeoned to death by the verbal barbs of a bunch of soft-speaking bleeding hearts.
