Present allegiance is often demanded in today’s America on the basis of past accolades. For instance, criticism of our modern-day media is decried as an attack on our free press and as an imperilment to our representative republic. However, our modern media is more propaganda than press; more an attempt to indoctrinate people rather than to inform them. Yet, if one criticizes today’s manipulative media, he or she is denounced for attacking the watchdog of the American people, despite the fact that most of today’s media has become a lapdog for progressives rather than a watchdog for the populace.

Unfortunately, present-day politics, like our present-day press, is protected from renunciation on the basis of past accolaes. Many decry the renunciation of today’s elected representatives as an attack on our representative republic. However, many of today’s politicians are guilty of the very thing that our Founding Fathers taught should instigate revolution and the overthrow of government; namely, government’s failure to perform its divine purpose, which is to protect and preserve our God-given and inalienable rights, such as the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Many present-day politicians advocate encroaching on our individual freedoms, revoking our individual rights, and limiting our individual liberties for the good of all society. Like another politician from the past, they too believe “society’s needs must come before the individual’s needs.” Whereas such propaganda was used by Adolf Hitler to persuade the German people to surrender their individual rights and freedoms for the “good” of Germany, many of our elected officials are hoping to use the same propaganda to persuade us to surrender our individual rights and freedoms for the “good” of America. If we fall for it, we will end up, just like the Germans did, under the steel toed boot of a goose stepping tyrannical government.

One of the smartest things ever uttered by the brilliant Albert Einstein was this ingenious insight: “Blind belief in authority is the greatest enemy of truth." To universally condemn all condemnations of our current and corrupt government as unpatriotic, is to provide cover for contemporary politicians who are undermining our republic, undoing our constitutional rights and freedoms, and undercutting our civilization. Therefore, the next time you see perfidious politicians draping themselves in the flag in order to deflect all denunciations of their treasonous deeds, remember these perspicacious words of Samuel Johnson, "Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel."
