The Apostle John warns us not “to believe every spirit,” but to “try the spirits whether they are of God” (1 John 4:1). Afterward, he explains how we can “try the spirits” and tell “false prophets” from true ones (1 John 1:2-3). According to John, everyone who “confesses that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God,” but everyone who does “not” confess “that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God,” but is possessed with the “spirit of antichrist,” which John predicts will ultimately come to possess our whole fallen world at the end of time.
In this important passage, the beloved disciple is not only ominously warning us of an end-time world that will reject the divinity and lordship of Jesus Christ, by rejecting the miracle of the Incarnation—that God became a man in the man Christ Jesus—but also defending Christianity against Gnosticism, a threatening first century heresy. The Gnostic not only denied the virgin birth of Christ, but that God became a man in the man Christ Jesus. To the Gnostic, divinity in physical humanity was an absolute impossibility.
Notice, John predicts that the same spirit, the spirit of antichrist, that possessed the Gnostics, would come to possess our whole world at the end of time. Furthermore, he warned us that anyone refusing to confess the Incarnation and the virgin birth of Jesus Christ as cardinal doctrines of the Christian faith is not only not of God, but also a false prophet possessed by the spirit of antichrist.
Adam Hamilton, who is not only the pastor of the largest United Methodist Church in America, but also the Democrat nominee for the United States Senate in Kansas, preaches that it is not necessary to believe in the virgin birth of Christ to be a Christian. Whereas the ancient Gnostics would be proud of Hamilton and happy to cast a ballot for him, the Bible condemns him as a false prophet, who is possessed with the spirit of antichrist. The truth is; there is no such thing as Christianity without the Incarnation and virgin birth of Christ, for without these fundamentals of the Christian Faith Christ is merely human and not divine. Consequently, there can be no such thing as a Christian, someone who, like Thomas of old, bows before Christ and confesses Him as their Lord and God (John 20:28).
Democrats are not only running socialists, Islamists, and anarchists for elected office in next Tuesday’s midterm elections, but also heretics, false prophets, and antichrists, like Adam Hamilton in Kansas and James Talarico in Texas. Of course, this should come as no surprise to any of us, since the Democrat Party has long proven itself to be possessed with the spirit of antichrist, by being hellbent on squelching the Christian church and silencing the Gospel of Jesus Christ in our land. However, what is surprising, as well as downright dumbfounding, is that millions of professed Christians in this country vote for Democrats; that is, for the political candidates of a political party that is obviously possessed with the spirit of antichrist.
