TODAY'S DEVOTION ON THE BIBLE

Did you know that some believers are more noble than others? According to the Apostle Paul, the Christians in Berea were more noble than others because they “received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, [to make sure] those things [they heard] were so” (Acts 17:11).

It is one thing for Christians to be ever-ready to hear a good sermon, but another thing all together for them to check out the sermons they hear with the Scripture, to assure themselves that each sermon is biblically sound. Unfortunately, the more noble believer is a rare find in today’s church, since its pews are filled with the spiritually indifferent and scripturally ignorant. The sad truth is; most churchgoers today don’t know the Bible well enough to know whether their pastor’s sermons are biblically sound or just sounding brass.

Do you know whose preaching the Bereans were checking out with the Scripture? It was the preaching of the Apostle Paul. If the Bereans needed to check out Paul’s preaching with the Scripture, how much more do you need to check out the preaching of your pastor? Of course, if you don’t know the Bible, you’ll not be able to know whether your pastor’s sermons are biblically sound or not.
