TODAY'S DEVOTION ON THE BIBLE

In governmental affairs, the question is often asked, “What does religion have to do with it?” The answer, much to the chagrin of those asking the question, is, “Everything!” Religion has everything to do with it. For instance, the dictatorial nature of all communist governments stems from the atheism upon which they are all founded. Likewise, the absence of religious freedom in Islamic states is a result of the militancy taught by the Koran against all infidels; that is, non-Muslims. The prevalence of poverty in countries like India is perpetuated by the Hindu teaching of Karma, which  teaches uncharitableness toward the poor, who are believed to be paying in this present life for poor performances in past lives.

What made Western Civilization stand head and shoulders above all other civilizations in all of human history. It was undoubtedly the Christian Faith upon which it was founded. As Victor Hugo once wrote: “England has two books, the Bible and Shakespeare. England made Shakespeare, but the Bible made England.”

Like Victor Hugo, Queen Victoria also believed that the bedrock of England was the Bible. She once told an African emissary, “Tell your prince that this Book (the Bible) is the secret of England's greatness.” She went on to attribute to the Bible England’s supremacy in the world.
