TODAY'S DEVOTION ON THE BIBLE

As we saw in yesterday’s post, it was the severe persecution the Puritans suffered at the hands of the Church of England that resulted in them migrating to the new world. Having first left England to escape persecution and to seek religious freedom in Holland, the Pilgrims later left Holland to migrate to the new world in search of a new life, as well as religious freedom. When they did, their leader William Bradford wrote that they left Holland to board the Mayflower for the new world knowing that “they were pilgrims.”

It is from the above words of their leader, William Bradford, that the Pilgrims got their name. It is also due to Bradford bringing the Geneva Bible to America rather than the King James Version that resulted in the Geneva Bible, not the King James Version, being the translation most widely used by the early American colonists.
