TODAY'S DEVOTION ON THE BIBLE

In the 1st or 2nd century AD, the papyrus roll began to give way to what is known as the papyrus codex. A codex is simply what we know today as a book. Still, whether in roll or codex form, papyrus sheets were very fragile things, subject to deterioration. As a result, none of the original manuscripts of the Bible have survived to our day. The fact that the Bible’s original manuscripts no longer exists, presents us with two important questions.

Why did God not miraculously preserve for posterity the original manuscripts of His Word?

How can we be assured of the authenticity of the Bible without the existence of its original manuscripts to base its authenticity upon?

The answer to the first question may be found in the fact that God wanted to prevent us from enshrining the original manuscripts of the Bible and becoming worshipers of the book of God rather than the God of the book.
