“Pilate then went back inside the palace, summoned Jesus and asked him, ‘Are you the king of the Jews?’ ‘Is that your own idea,’ Jesus asked, ‘or did others talk to you about me?’ ‘Am I a Jew?’ Pilate replied. ‘It was your people and your chief priests who handed you over to me. What is it you have done?’ Jesus said, ‘My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews. But now my kingdom is from another place.’ ‘You are a king, then!’ said Pilate. Jesus answered, ‘You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.’" (John 18:33-37 NIV)

Christ did break His silence on two occasions during His trial. The first was before Pontius Pilate. When Pilate asked Him if He were a King, Jesus replied, “You are right in saying I am a king.” Christ went on to explain, however, that His “kingdom [was] not of this world.” It was a heavenly and eternal kingdom, not an earthly and temporal one.

According to Jesus, He came into the world “to testify to the truth” of His kingdom. It is real! It is also accessible to all who are willing to listen to the truth. Remember, Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6). Therefore, the subjects of Christ’s kingdom are those who prove that they are “on the side of truth” by “listening to Him.”

Many claim Christ as their King who neither listen to Him nor obey Him. Such claims are fallacious and all who make them prove themselves foreigners to the Kingdom of God. There is simply no way that you can be a subject of Christ’s Kingdom without being subjected to Christ.
