Las Vegas Catholics Cashing In Their Chips
2 Mar 2006
Roman Catholic churches in Las Vegas have a peculiar problem. They weekly receive casino chips in their collection plates. Since the chips come from many different casinos, cashing them in presents a challenging problem. However, the churches have come up with an ingenious system to convert the chips to cash. Every week the chips are all sent to a nearby Franciscan Monastery where they are sorted and then taken to the right casinos to be redeemed. I suppose you could call the Franciscan monks entrusted with this weekly task “chip monks.”
