Dr. Jack Kervorkian Seeks Early Release From Prison
21 May 2006

The Associated Press is reporting that the attorney of Dr. Jack Kevorkian is asking Michigan’s Parole Board and governor to release his client from prison due to failing health. If not soon paroled, Kevorkian’s lawyer contends that his client, who assisted in at least 130 assisted-suicides, will end up like all of his former patients—dead. In spite of the irony of “Dr. Death,” the foremost champion of the right to die movement, requesting an immediate release from prison over his own fear of dying, I for one am in favor of paroling Kevorkian, providing that his parole is granted under certain conditions.

As I recently reported in my article, “The Hypocritical Oath, judges are putting up potentially insurmountable roadblocks to the use of lethal injections in the executions of condemned criminals. Judges’ increasing insistence that lethal injection executions be administered by medical doctors, who are forbidden by the Hippocratic Oath and the American Medical Association’s code of ethics from taking part in executions, is effectively doing away with lethal injection executions. Yet, what if Dr. Kevorkian’s parole was contingent upon him administering lethal injection executions?

Wow! What an idea. It’s the best of both worlds. First, Kevorkian could spend the rest of his life doing what he loves to do; namely, knocking people off. Second, he would no longer be breaking the law in doing it; instead, he would be executing the law to its fullest extent. And finally, Kevorkian wouldn’t die in prison, but all death row inmates would, thanks to good ole Jack.
