Let Allah Contend for Himself

Charles Spurgeon was once asked how he defended the Bible. He answered, “Like a lion, I just turn it lose, it will defend itself.” The Word of God does not need our defense. It is completely capable of defending itself. It is, according to the Psalmist, forever settled in Heaven (Psalm 119:89). No angel in Heaven, no man upon earth, and no devil in Hell can keep one "t" from being crossed, one "i" from being dotted, or one word from being fulfilled (Matthew 5:18). Truly, the Word of our God is inerrant, invincible, immutable, and inevitable!
Voltaire, the famous French atheist, dedicated his life to the destruction of the Bible. He once bragged, “It took twelve men to start Christianity. One will destroy it.” However, shortly after his death, Voltaire’s house and press were being used by the Geneva Bible Society to produce Bibles for the propagation of the gospel throughout the world. Christians need never fear nor fret the Voltaires of our world. The dustbins of history are filled with those who set out to disprove the Bible and destroy the Christian faith.
While our God laughs His scoffers to scorn, He is “longsuffering” with them, “not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (Psalm 2:4; 2 Peter 3:3-9). He knows that in the end He will be “justified” and proven right, while all who oppose Him will be condemned and proven wrong (Romans 3:4). This explains how He can confidently invite men to “prove” Him by putting His Word to the test (Malachi 3:10; John 7:16-17).
Unafraid of any fault ever being found with His infallible Word, our God welcomes scrutiny. On the other hand, Allah, the god of Islam, finds it intolerable. Unlike the unshakable God of Holy Scripture, the god of the Koran appears insecure and paranoid, demanding blind obedience and the immediate elimination of anyone questioning his word. Whereas Christians are to love and pray for those who blaspheme Jehovah and desecrate the Bible, Muslims are to hate and kill all who blaspheme Allah and desecrate the Koran.
In Judges Chapter Six, worshippers of Baal demand the execution of Gideon, who had torn down the altar of their false god and cut down his grove. However, Gideon’s father, Joash, refused to surrender his son for execution, arguing that if Baal was god he could contend for himself. Any god who needs his followers to defend his altar is no god at all, neither is a god who is scared of scrutiny, demands blind obedience, and needs his followers to do his fighting and defend his word.
If Allah is God, let him contend for himself. If he can’t, but needs al-Qaida to do it for him, he’s just another false religion’s nonexistent deity. Far from deserving the worship of our world’s 1.3 billion Muslims, he doesn’t even warrant a second thought from a single one of our world’s 6.5 billion inhabitants.
