Why Muslim Terrorists Believe They Can Win
26 Sep 2005

Based upon debacles like Vietnam and Somalia, Islamic terrorists like Osama bin Laden have long believed that war with America is winnable. This emboldening conviction of the terrorists is based upon their perception of Americans having no stomach for war. They believe all it takes to make the world’s sole superpower turn tail and run is enough body bags.

This past Saturday, thousands opposed to the war in Iraq descended upon our nation’s capital for the largest antiwar demonstration in Washington since the war began. The highlight of the weekend rally came when the mother of a U.S. soldier slain in Iraq, Cindy Sheehan, took to the stage. Sheehan, whose 26-day vigil outside President Bush’s ranch in Texas drew thousands of antiwar protesters, chided Congress for backing Bush’s war in Iraq and then asked our nation’s representatives, “How many more people’s children are you willing to sacrifice?” In response to her question to Congress, Sheehan led the crowd in chanting “Not one more.”

As Sheehan led antiwar protesters on the National Mall, a mother in far away Palestine grieved the death of her son Rwad Farhad, a field commander for Hamas who was killed Saturday by an Israeli missile attack. Farhad’s mother, Um Nidal, has now lost all three of her sons in Hamas’ terrorist war against Israel. Far from blaming the terrorist organization for the deaths of her sons, Um Nidal says that she is “proud” of her sons for having died for Hamas. In fact, she says her only regret is that she has no “more sons to offer.”

As much as it pains me to say, I’m afraid Osama bin Laden and his ilk maybe onto something. If Cindy Sheehan and Um Nidal are any indication of our resolve and the terrorists’, then it appears to me that we are in a world of trouble.
