DAILY DEVOTIONS > 13. A TREASURE THAT CAN'T BE HAD AT BARGAIN PRICES

The Parable of the Hidden Treasure

The Lord Jesus once compared the Kingdom of Heaven to a treasure hid in a field (Matthew 13:44). To acquire the treasure a man must purchase the field at the cost of all he possesses. Notice, it is the field not the treasure that is purchased. Salvation cannot be bought with our good works and deeds, but only obtained by those willing to make a complete commitment of themselves to Jesus Christ—who alone purchased salvation for lost humanity by dying on the cross.

Although many today claim ownership of the field, few actually have acquired the treasure by making a total commitment of themselves to Jesus Christ. Still, thanks to our assessing of men’s spiritual riches by their boasts rather than their beliefs, a cut-rate salvation peddling, modern church has assured multitudes that they are spiritual Rockefellers simply because they’ve walked the church aisle and confessed Christ. However, our Lord warned us in Matthew 7:21, “Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.”

Don’t be fooled by the cheap salvation doled out by today’s “dollar store” church. Salvation can’t be had at bargain prices. God refuses to lower the price for anyone. You will either sell all you have or be sold down the river. The choice is yours. Choose carefully, your eternity depends upon it.
