Because of several recent news stories and their highlighting of the Biblical signs of the times, I feel compelled to write another Time Capsule today about how the Biblically predicted characteristics of the perilous times of the last days are appearing all around us. First, however, I want to explain how to properly understand the signs of the times in these perilous times of the last days.

Jesus, in His famous Olivet Discourse, predicted that certain signs of the times would appear upon earth prior to His Second Coming (Matthew 24:1-14). He also scolded the religious leaders of His day for being blind to the signs of His first coming (Matthew 16:1-3). Furthermore, Jesus promised us that His Second Coming would occur in a future generation which would live to see all the predicted end-time signs of the times (Luke 21:31-32). The Apostle Paul also predicted that the perilous times of the last days, which will precede Christ’s Second Coming, will be characterized by a number of appalling and imperiling things (2 Timothy 3:1-9). Now, to all of this we must add the Apostle Peter’s prediction that end-time scoffers will scoff at all of this, since all of these Biblically predicted signs of the times are nothing new, but happenings that have always happened (2 Peter 3:3-4). It is here that we reach a salient point that must be understood if we are to understand Scripture’s signs of the times.

What distinguishes the end-time signs of the times is not their novelty, that they are new and have never happened before, but the extraordinary and unprecedented degree to which they will be happening. For instance, consider this end-time sign of the times. The Apostle Paul predicts that at the end of time, just prior to Christ’s Second Coming, “men shall be lovers of their own selves” (2 Timothy 3:2). Well, when have fallen men not been lovers of their own selves? Yet, what is it today that makes selfishness markedly worse than ever before? How about this, today, like never before, the world peddles self-love as the cure-all for all of our emotional ills. Indeed, narcissism is the prescribed narcotic for maintaining one’s emotional well-being. Consequently, narcissistic celebrities are idolized and political narcissists are elected to the highest offices in our land.

One of the signs of the times that Jesus predicted would precede His Second Coming is unprecedented pestilence (Matthew 24:7). Well, yesterday, we learned that pneumonic plague has broken out in Putin’s Russia, thanks to a lab worker, in a Russian bioweapons laboratory, breaking a test tube of live bacteria. The lab worker has since died, and at least 200 people have now been quarantined and placed under medical observation. Frighteningly, this news story comes on the heels of another. We recently learned from Dr. Anthony Fauci’s diary that our own military has aerosolized the deadly Ebola virus. Of course, all of this, along with the fact that we now know that the COVID-19 pandemic, which killed millions of people world-wide, not to mention over a million Americans, originated in a communist Chinese bioweapons laboratory in Wuhan, China, makes it crystal clear how pestilence, plague, and pandemics are becoming unprecedented in today’s end-time world, just as Jesus predicted long ago.

Another sign of the times that Paul predicted would appear in the perilous times of the last days, just prior to Christ’s Second Coming, is that men will be “without natural affection” (2 Timothy 3:3). Now, we can all agree that there is no more natural affection than that of a mother for her child. However, we live in a country today that has aborted 64 million children and counting. In addition, many women in this country are protesting that Lindsay Clancy, a mother who monstrously and mercilessly strangled her own three children to death, was not found innocent of her inhumane and heinous crime by a hung jury in Massachusetts, a state that has just legalized abortion right up to the moment of birth. Needless to say, it’s easy to see how Paul’s prediction of men being without natural affection at the end of time is an unprecedented reality in our time, proving our time to be the Biblically predicted end of time. 

I could go on and on, but I believe the above suffices to prove its high time for end-time scoffers to stop scoffing. The Bible is being fulfilled right before our very eyes and the signs of the times are appearing all around us. Jesus is coming! Therefore, it’s time for all saints to lift up [their] heads for [our] redemption draweth nigh” (Luke 21:28) and for all sinners to prepare to meet their God (Amos 4:12), by coming to Christ in faith before it is everlastingly too late for them to do so!
