TODAY'S DEVOTION ON THE BIBLE
The sharp two-edged sword of the Word of God divides between “joints and marrow” (Hebrews 4:12). To me, this most curious statement becomes most enlightening when compared to another important passage of Scripture. In 2 Timothy 2:14-18, the Apostle Paul admonishes us to focus our wholehearted attention on the Word of God. He warns us against getting entangled with the words of men, which, according to Paul, ruin the hearer, increase ungodliness, and spread like gangrene.
Where is our blood produced? It is produced in the marrow of our bones. What is gangrene? It is blood poisoning. According to Hebrews 4:12, the life-giving and powerful Word of God penetrates to the marrow of a man’s bones. It can purify the blood! On the other hand, if we forsake the Word of God to focus on the words of men, it can poison our blood. Therefore, concentrating our focus on the Word of God rather than on the words of men should be seen as important to both our spiritual and physical wellbeing.
