TODAY'S DEVOTION ON THE BIBLE

The Bible is the Christian’s sword. In Ephesians 6:11-17, the Apostle Paul teaches us that the whole of our spiritual success hinges upon our success in spiritual warfare. It is not really men, mere “flesh and blood,” that the Christian contends with in this world. Instead, our real foes are spiritual, not human. They are, according to the Apostle Paul, “principalities…powers…rulers of the darkness of this world…[and] spiritual wickedness in high places.”

It is essential for Christians to recognize their real enemy. According to the Apostle Peter, our real adversary is the devil, who walks about like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8). Once we recognize our real formidable foe, we must resolve to resists him in our Christian lives at all cost (James 4:7).

The nature of our warfare in this fallen world is not, as is popularly believed, but refuted by the Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 10:3-5, “fleshly” or “carnal.” Instead, it is “spiritual,” requiring it to be fought with the mighty weapons of our God-given spiritual arsenal. Among these mighty weapons, none are mightier than “the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.”
