TODAY'S DEVOTION ON THE BIBLE

How fickle is human opinion? As public opinion polls prove, general consensus is constantly changing. Majority opinion yesterday is no longer majority opinion today and majority opinion today will no longer be majority opinion tomorrow.

What can be said of public opinion can also be said of science, philosophy, ideology, and man-made religions. All of these things are in a constant state of flux. Much of what they once avowed has been disavowed and most of what they still retain has been revised to some degree or another. Obviously, we find ourselves in a fallen world where everything is capricious and transient, everything, that is, but one thing.

God’s Word is both eternal and immutable. Jesus said, “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away” (Matthew 24:25). In addition, the ancient Prophet Isaiah taught us that though the grass withers and flowers fade, the Word of God will stand forever (Isaiah 40:8). God’s Word—the Bible—is the one thing in this ever-changing and temporal world that is both unchanging and eternal!

If you build your life on personal or public opinion, ever-oscillating science, human philosophy, political ideology, or man-made religion, your life will certainly fail the test of time and eternity. On the other hand, if you build your life on God’s infallible Word—the Bible—which is forever established in Heaven, both your life in the here-and-now and hope of eternal life hereafter will be established on a rock solid and unmovable foundation.
