Believing that representative government could only succeed among a moral and religious people, our Founding Fathers made the Bible the bedrock of our Republic. Contrary to popular opinion, the reason they did so was not because most of them were Bible-believing Christians, but because of the prevalence of the Christian faith among the general population. This explains why Andrew Jackson said, “The Bible is the Rock upon which this Republic rests.”
