TODAY'S DEVOTION ON THE BIBLE

Charles Haddon Spurgeon, the prince of preachers, bemoaned the fact that the saints of God “make slow advances in the divine life,” despite the fact that they “hear many sermons.” Spurgeon asked why Christians love the wheat, but do not grind it; have the corn, but do not go forth into the fields to gather it; have the fruit hanging upon the tree, but will not pluck it; and, have the water flowing at their feet, but will not stoop to drink it. The answer to Spurgeon’s query is obviously found in the people of God’s underestimation of the Word of God’s importance. “From such folly,” Spurgeon prayed, as should we, “deliver us, O Lord.”
