TODAY'S DEVOTION ON THE BIBLE
As we pointed out in yesterday’s post, Gail Riplinger’s book New Age Bible Versions falls far short of her claim of divine inspiration, being fraught with errors. In today’s post, we will look at one of many errors found in Mrs. Riplinger’s book. According to her, what initially prompted her study of “New Age Bible Versions” was the attempt of a counselor at a campus Bible study to comfort a distraught young woman. The counselor read the young woman Isaiah 26:3 from the New American Standard Bible (NASB). Riplinger was aghast, writing afterward, that “the NASB’s sword was sheathed hiding the key words ‘on thee’” from the verse.
In her book, Riplinger compares Isaiah 26:3 in the NASB with the King James Version (KJV). According to Riplinger, the NASB reads: “The steadfast of mind Thou wilt keep in perfect peace.” The KJV, on the other hand, reads: “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee.” However, the NASB really reads: “The steadfast of mind Thou wilt keep in perfect peace, Because he trusts in Thee.” Riplinger conveniently ends the verse with a period after “peace” and omits from the NASB translation of Isaiah 26:3 the key words: “Because he trusts in Thee.” Furthermore, Riplinger fails to show that the “on thee” in the KJV is italicized by the translators, meaning it is an addition of the translators and not found in the Hebrew text. It is this type of thing throughout Riplinger’s book that completely discredits it.
